Travel Blogger Daily Blog: Why I Don’t Mind It When It Rains In L.A.

Sunny Days & Coastal Sunsets Are On The Horizon

I don’t like it when it rains.

The only time I want getting water poured on my head is when I’m in the shower. Not when I walk outside.

With rain, there’s not really any outdoor activities, I have to drive with the top up (and I’m really a top-down kind of person) and I have to put on water-absorbing jeans, a rain jacket and hat. I own an umbrella, by the way, but have no idea where it is in the apartment.

But strangely enough, I actually don’t mind it when it rains in Los Angeles.

Sure, the streets flood and the sidewalks can turn into rivers because the drainage is so poor here. The traffic is a mess and the freeways are even more clogged than usual.

But I can put up with it for one key reason: I know when the rain stops, it’s not likely to come again for several days or even weeks (in the winter) and not for several months in the spring, summer and fall.

As I write this, it’s been raining for a week and a half. Some people are sick of it and are even getting weather depressed. Not me, tho.

That’s because I know sunshine is on the way and in a few days from now everyone will forget about all that rain.

It’s not that way in other places in the world.  They may get a break in the weather for a few days or a week, but they know it’s going to return to them. Now that would be weather depressing to me.

I don’t like when it rains when I travel.

I was recently soaked (twice!) during a trip to New Orleans and it quite literally put a damper on things. Thankfully it cleared and I was able to roam around the French Quarter and up and down Bourbon Street but when it rains, a destination loses much of its vibe.

I just wrote a blog post that Los Angeles attracted a record 50 million visitors in 2018. A big part of that is because of the weather. It’s usually sunny and 75F here, and people like to travel to places without having to worry about it raining.

So when we do get rain – even nearly daily showers as has been the case to start 2019 – it doesn’t bother me. I know sunny days and coastal sunsets are coming soon.

And I’m a sunny days and coastal sunsets kind of guy.

Cheers!
