Getting Settled In A Hotel Room

You arrive at your destination, check in and excitedly head to your room.
What’s the first thing you do after opening the door?
If you’re like, you toss your bag on on the bed and head out to explore the destination. Others, tho, open their suitcase and start putting things in the drawers.
Which person are you and why?
Personally, I don’t do it because I’m always afraid if I spread out my stuff, I’ll leave something in the hotel. And, of course, it will be one of my favorite PubClub.com shirts (this has happened and retrieving left items in a hotel room are next to impossible to get back, I’ve found) rather than an old t-shirt that I just wear when sleeping.
I actually establish a spot to put down my suitcase, be it on a chair or that folding luggage thing found in the closet and keep all my stuff in that compact area. For clothes, I pretty much live out of the suitcase.
Yet I know others who act as if they are moving into a new apartment. They immediately put their clothes in the drawers, spread out other items over the counters (with my friends this usually involves booze!) and turn the bathroom into a playground of grooming items.
I’m not defending my approach or criticizing theirs; I just find it interesting how different people take different approaches to this aspect of travel.
I do, however, recommend my strategy if you’re somewhere on a weekend bender. Because when it comes check-out time, you’re going to be running late because of the day/night before, and if your stuff is scattered all over the hotel room you’ll panic to pack all of it.
I’ve seen this and actually convinced a friend to change his approach to unpacking in hotel rooms.
Whatever is your style, just be sure and repack everything before you leave your room.

Thanks! I actually do unpack if I’m in a place for a week or longer, too. Glad you enjoyed the article!
Good advice! For me it depends on the length of stay. For a weekend agree, don’t unpack. But for a week or more, it sort helps me get fully into the place I’m staying. Feels more like living thee than visiting. Also, I can check out my t-shirt selection and see which is for which concert or bar.
