Craft Beers, Boat Drinks & Wine May Not Be Part Of All-You-Can Drink Supplement

On the surface, it seems like a no-brainer.
Especially for fun people like PubClubbers who like to have a few libations while living it up on a cruise ship – pay a $50 or so per-night supplement for an “all-you-can-drink” package.
But if you party like PubClubbers, you better be sure you’re getting what you pay for so here’s 5 questions to ask your cruise line ahead of the trip.
1.) When Does The 24-Hour Period Start And End?
Does it start at 12:01 a.m, and go until midnight? And if it ends at midnight and you’re still out, does the next day automatically kick in at that moment? Or if you start at say 3 p.m., does it go until 3 a.m. (This is what PubClub.com would prefer of course).
2.) What Size Are The Mixed Drinks?
Most “all-you-can-drink” packages are not that at all; they have some type of limit, like 15 in one day. While that may sound like a whopping number (to some) it really may not be the case.
Do the mixed drinks come only in those tiny 10-ounce plastic cups that are halfway filled with ice, or are they real drinks in 14- or 16-ounce glasses or cups, filled with a generous pour of alcohol?
Same thing goes with beer – it it from a 12-ounce bottle or can or a draft in a small cup?
3.) Does The Package Include Only Crappy Beer Or Good Beers?
Are you only getting beers like Bud Light or Coors Light or premium beers, speciality beers, beer local to ports you are visiting and even craft beers? This is VERY important.
4.) Does The Package Include Low-Shelf Or Top-Shelf Liquor
The same question for the quality of beers applies to the liquor. Are your margaritas made with the low-grade Cuervo white (or worse) or good tequila?
5.) Is The Liquor Basic Mixed Drinks Or Does It Include Speciality Drinks?
Can you have boat drinks on the boat as part of the package? You know the ones in the tall glass with the umbrella and several types of liquors, or just a basic drink like, say rum and Coke.
BONUS: Does It Include Wine?
Usually not; in fact most packages include only 20% off wine. That’s not a good deal at all; that’s only $10 off a $50 bottle of wine, so that would cost you $40 plus the $50 or so you paid for the supplement.
Also be aware that the drink packages don’t include tipping and you can only get one drink at a time. This could be a real issue for singles; say you finally get that hot blonde in the blue bikini to join you for a drink well, you can’t use your credits to buy her a drink.
And you can’t do this for one night here, one night there; it’s for the entire cruise. And if you take one day “off” or have a light drinking day, you don’t get credits for the next day.
PubClub is not saying don’t get the package, and certainly for those who are going to be tipping back quite a few it’s no doubt cheaper than paying $10 and up each time you go to the bar.
But just know what are are getting – or are not getting – before you have the bartender pop the cork on the champagne. Oh wait, that’s extra.
