Cruise ships have a built-in advantage over other forms of vacations in that they include meals and entertainment with the price of the room.

But be careful when booking because cruise ship lines have the hotels’ version of resort fees with add-on expenses, as well as port fees. They also have drinks packages so you don’t have to constantly be billing beer and cocktails to your room.

Cruise ships gained popularity with the masses when a TV show called “The Love Boat” went on the air  in 1977. That ran until 1986 and opened the eyes of singles and PubClub.com-minded people who never before had even considered cruising as a vacation option. Prior to that, cruise ships were known to be for the “nearly dead or newlyweds.” That’s changed now.

Now not even the most naive person could realisticially belive that the romances they watched on “The Love Boat” really took place on cruise ships, but the possibility that something like that could happen was enough to cause an industry to go from approximatley 500,000 people annually to what the Cruise Lines International Association expects to reach 35.7 million in 2024. A whopping 14 new cruise ships are being added to fleets in 2024, including Royal Caribbean’s massive 20-deck Icon of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world.
