“Alcoholic drinks are part of the FIFA World Cup, so we’re going to have them,” then-FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said 2012. “Excuse me if I sound a bit arrogant but that’s something we won’t negotiate.”

So much for those prophetic words.

World Cup 2022 Qatar will be dry. Meaning there will be no beer. None of the eight stadiums will have beer sales. Only the super-rich people in the luxury suites will have alcohol. Of course, take care of the sponsors and rich people while the average Joe has to sit sipping, what, sodas?

Fans will be able to get drinks at World Cup gathering spaces or at specially licensed restaurants, bars, and hotels around the country. But keep this in mind if you are there: public consumption of alcohol is illegal in Qatarm an offense that can bring up to six months in prison and a fine of more than $800.

So much for the party atmosphere of World Cup 2022 Qatar.

Not not only that but you better watch out for how to dress in Qatar and don’t travel without your mask. There are so many restrictions in Qatar that the U.S. Embassy there created a page on its website titled “Cultural Considerations.” Among them is the dress code in Qatar:

Many public areas in Qatar have dress codes requiring that both men and women cover shoulders, chests, stomachs, and knees, and that tight leggings be covered by a long shirt or dress. These attire standards can vary between neighborhoods and facilities. Many buildings require masks that cover the mouth and nose as a COVID-19 mitigation measure.”

For singles, well, the World Cup has – according to a PubClub.com correspondent who has been to several of them and will provide boots on the ground from Qatar – become a “sausage fest.” For partying with single girls, Qatar will be as dry as its desert landscape.

No women and no beer. If you go you better like soccer because otherwise World Cup Qatar 2022 isn’t much of a party.
