The Dogs slayed the Cats, the Boomers have boomed into the Top 5, Big Blue has yet to really prove itself, Bucky is hanging on, the Spears have disappeared because they play in the ACC, Bama may be back after all and in the Lone Star state, the Sarks and the Jimbos are hanging thier cowboy hats mighty low this week.
Out West, the Ducks and Dogs get after it after half a season of building up to this moment and the never-say-the-game-is-over Men From Troy try and put another hammer in the coffin of Marcus Freeman just a few weeks before Halloween. On the other coast, those in Miami are still fumbling around for a reason the Hurricanes didn’t take a knee.
Now onto this week’s games. All times Pacific because the Prognosticator lives on the West Coast.
Arkansas at Alabama (9 a.m., ESPN)
The penalty-filled Pachyderms return to the home den this week to face a pack of Hogs that have been delicous meat for thier conference opponents to date. Tho they have squealed quite a bit in the process and seem as if they are at least due to come out of a few games alive rather than on the BBQ grill. Still, if the Tiders can keep their footing untill the ball is snapped and Milroe can continue to pass well, then any talk of an upset is hogwash. Winner: Alabama
Indiana at Michigan (9 a.m., ABC)
The cupcake party in the Mitten State continues as Big Blue gets to send a red-clad team home feeling blue after another blowout. By the third quarter, IU will be saying :hoos-er is that scoring again on us?” Winner: Michigan
Ohio State at Purdue (9 a.m,. Peacock)
Knowing a fall is coming soon, the Prognosticator is tempted to report that the Nuts will be boiled, especially considering the home fans will be starting their morning by drinking thier namesake’s cocktail. But Drew Brees doesn’t live there anymore and neither does anyone else capable of pulling off the upset. Winner: Ohio State
Oregon at Washington (12:30 p.m., ABC)
The Sailgaters will be tossing out their anchors for this one, the so-far game of the year in what is college football’s most exciting conference. The Pac-12, on its last breath, is living large right up to its end. The Ducks come into the game not waddling but flying high based on their runaway wins to date and are facing a pack of dogs who are also ferocious on offense. This one will be a Pac-12 classic, both teams gliding along the field in a scoring slugfest. In the end, it will be the home crowd – another 12th man in Seattle – that will be the difference. Winner: Washington
Texas A&M at Tennessee (12:30 p.m., CBS)
The wounded Cadets limp onto Shields-Watkins Field after being battered by Bama and now must muster the strength to take on the explosive Rocky Toppers. Vol Nation has been pretty quiet after the Florida game but can make some noise this week before next week’s big rivalry matchup on the Third Saturday of October. Expect it to happen, for the Jimbos lack the firepower to avoid a third loss. Winner: Tennessee
Auburn at LSU (4 p.m, ESPN)
The Plainsmen roll down to the Red Baton with little hope of achieving victory but the inhospitable Felines will provide the perfect platform to make their plodding offense look potent. They will not, however, be able to keep pace with Kelley’s (Not) Heroes, who can’t defend but can definitely score. Winner: LSU
USC at Notre Dame (4:30 p.m., NBC)
After taking their fans for a wild ride the past two games, the Travelers travel to South Bend in hopes of it being a stress-free journey. They will enjoy it, for the Leprechauns are fearful in name only, as their in-over-his-head coach is about to run out of lucky charms. Winner: USC
UCLA at Oregon State (5 p.m., FOX)
The Baby Bears make their final trip to the heart of the valley and will be greeted not by sunshine but clouds and rain, as well as an opponent that is a pesky little creature set on making a final Pac-12 statement. The condidions are all in the Beavs favor but just when the Chips are down, the ball is going to bounce just right for the Cubbies. Winner: UCLA
