Fighters To Promote January Event At MGM Grand In Las Vegas
The biggest event in boxing to start 2019 is being promoted near the end of 2018.
Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner have agreed to fight Jan. 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. And on Nov. 19 and 20, they will be holding press conferences in New York and then Los Angeles to officially announce it to the press.
PubClub.com will be in Los Angeles to cover the West Coast press conference.
This such a big event that major media outlets are writing about the fact there’s a press conference. That’s unheard of in other sports.
The fact that Pacquiao is even fighting in the U.S., is news. He has income tax issues stemming from his 2015 loss to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. But Pacquiao vowed to fight again on American soil and he’s proving to be a man of his word.
The 40-year-old fighter has a record of 60-7-2 with 39 knockouts and last fought in July. That was a seventh-round technical knockout of Lucas Matthysse – Pacquiao’s first knockout since 2009 – for the secondary World Boxing Assn. welterweight belt.
He will be defending that belt against the 29-year-old Broner, who is 33-3-1 with 24 KOs. Broner’s nickname is “The Problem.” And he hopes to be a real problem for Pacquiao.
The fight will be on Showtime. Details of that will also be announced at the press conferences.
