Not Only Do Pretty Girls Get Bigger Tips But More Rounds Of Drinks Are Ordered, Too
It happens. I admit it.
Just did, in fact, which prompted me to write this column.
I tip good-looking waitresses better than ugly ones.
I’m not even sure it’s a conscious thing, at least immediately. When determining a tip, I look into service and whether or not my beer sat empty for any length of time and the attitude of the person serving it.
But when all factors are equal – the service was good or even adequate, her attitude was pleasant – when it comes down to contemplating that extra dollar or two for the tally, it is always determined by the discretion of these eyes.
And in my case, the eyes have it!
Blondes tend to reap the biggest financial benefits from me. Shoulder-length hair is preferable to the shorter, chopped style. Anyone with dimples, well, that’s good for the moment but bad when the credit card statement arrives.
To be clear, I am a fairly generous tipper. I generally leave 20%, more for places I frequent. So it’s not that an unattractive waitress is going to get stiffed. The only way that happens is if she is ignoring my table, and in that case looks don’t matter a bit. Even a knockout who can’t bring a beer is not going to get much of a tip.
I am, of course, hardly alone in the area of tipping based on appearance. How else to explain places like Hooters and the Tilted Kilt, where hot girls are “stacked” throughout the place, even dressed in sexy orange shorts or low-cut button-down shirts. Men even wander briefly around these places before taking a seat so they can be served by the best-looking of the waitresses.
Good-looking waitresses also get bigger tips because the bills are always bigger with them serving me. The reason for this is simple: When I’m being served by a beauty, I’m stay longer and run up a larger tab. She may also influence me to try a more expensive dish at dinner or an appetizer.
At the very least I’m sure going to stay and have another beer (or two, three…). When I have an ugly waitress, I’m quickly on the move. A good-looking waitress gets more of a tip than an unattractive waitress simply because of the larger percentage of the bill.
So since this is my standard for waitresses, what about a waiter? Well, let’s just say he better be paying close attention to the level of liquid in my beer glass!
