South Bay Singles Have A New Hangout Destination Bar

Redondo Beach’s nightlife is getting a huge lift with the opening of Rock & Brews in Riviera Village.
The hugely successful craft beer bar and restaurant of El Segundo is expanding to PCH and PV Drive, and it’s just what the area needs. And that is a place where the young and fun who live in ‘Dondo can hang loose with a few quality beers in a comfortable place and use as a launching pad to later nightlife.
And in Redondo, that means The Bull Pen or, as long-time locals affectionately call it, the “wrinkle room.” (You see, its more for the young at heart than for the actual young.)
Rock & Brews, opening the second weekend in May, has a whopping 80 taps of craft beers, food that will feature BBQ as a nod to the location’s predecessors (Tony Roma’s and Chicago Ribs) and patios with fire pits. It will also feature four stations of “fill ’em up yourself” beer taps. And it plays those awesome rock ‘n roll music videos on the TVs.
It’s what the area sorely needs, in fact. And it’s an up-and-caoming area, too. There are some really cool places in Riviera Village that are totally off the radar to South Bay locals, even those who live within walking distance.
There’s Friends of The Vine wine lounge, Sofia’s with its bottomless mimosas on Saturday and Sunday mornings/afternoons, the best sangria in the Beach Cities at Zazou and HT Grill and Mickie Finnz.
What’s missing, tho, is a cool, hip hangout where singles and even the area’s many young couples can gather.
Rock & Brews’ impact will be on keeping the locals of Redondo and “poor man’s PV” local, rather than having them scamper off to Hermosa nad Manhattan Beach. It will also save them a lot of money because it’s about a $50 round-trip cab ride to the other bars in the Beach Cities.
