It’s minus-3 degrees in Chicago. In Tortola of the British Virgin Islands, it’s 82.
In Toronto it’s 22, 27 in Nashville and 31 in Paris. It’s 71 in Key West.
For those freezing in winter weather around the world, here are some warm-weather nightlife destinations that will heat up your zest for fun. They are places where you won’t need a bikini or board shorts rather than a sweater and heavy jacket. These are temperatures as of this writing in mid-January but they are typically warm or even hot this time of the yar.
British Virgin Islands
Temperture: 80s.
Bars & Nightlife: The various islands have cool beach bars such as Foxy’s, the Soggy Dollar Bar (home of the Painkiller cocktail) and the place where Jimmy Buffett was inspired to write “Cheeseburger in Paradise” on Tortola.
Waikiki Beach
Temperture: 80s.
Bars & Nightlife: It starts with Duke’s – particularly on a Sunday afternoon – and continues along the beach and the Waikiki Walk.
Key West
Temperture: 80s.
Bars & Nightlife: Start with the sunsets on Mallory Square and continue to the legendary bars of Sloppy Joe’s and Captain Tony’s Saloon while going in and out of the many bars on and around Duval Street. There’s live music everywhere from musicians who have developed “Keys Disease.”
Rio de Janeiro
Temperture: 80s.
Bars & Nightlife: Carnival season is here and Rio is the epicenter of it. For those heading or considering going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, pack those cold weather clothes because an Artic Blast is plunging temperatures into the 20s and 30s.
Surfer’s Paradise, Australia
Temperture: 80s.
Bars & Nightlife: How does a rooftop bar sound to you this time of the year? The Island Rooftop, sprawled on top of boutique hotel The Island. The biggest rooftop bar on the Gold Coast. There’s also the Sandbar, one of its longest-established beachfront watering holeson the corner of The Esplanade and Elkhorn Avenue across from Lifeguard Tower 35, Those are among the many bars in Surfer’s Paradise.
