Beach Volleyball Classes, Fun Party Events & Best Happy Hours

Moving to a new area is always full of challenges, and for single people it can be even more difficult than it is for couples or families.
That’s because single people are, well single. It can be harder to get out and do things because you’re alone. You risk being an outsider looking in, being on the fringes while others are having all the fun. It’s like window shopping – seeing but not experiencing the moment.
A lot of people think it’s tough to meet new people – particularly single people – in the Los Angeles South Bay Beach Cities, which includes Hermosa Beach. That’s because people tend to be in groups and it’s perceived to be hard to get into one one of those groups.
While that is partly true, there are ways to be a big part of the fun groups. Here’s PubClub.com’s top tips for easily meeting single people in the South Bay and in Hermosa in particular.
1.) Join A Beach Volleyball League

This is by far the easiest way to meet people and to get into a group. Beach volleyball is a big part of the culture here and once you start playing you’ll have a regular group of friends. The Manhattan Beach Parks & Recs holds volleyball classes of all sill levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced.
In Hermosa, sign up for the Smackfest Events volleyball classes or even a league. This is a very active group, hosted by Bill Sigler who seems to want everyone to meet everyone else in Hermosa. After the classes, which end at sunset, the group goes to Sharkeez for discounted drinks. Take the class or join a league and go to Sharkeez and you’ll have an instant group of friends.
Smackfest, in conjunction with another group called Prank Monkey, also has a kickball league. It has the same deal at Sharkeez after the Wednesday night games. Smackfest and Prank Monkey are very social groups.
Smackfest also holds three big events each year, a wine & beer festival, the Smackfest costume beach volleyball tournament and an Oktoberfest beer festival.
2.) Join The PubClub.com Party Report List
Each week, PubClub.com sends out a Party Report list that provides a rundown of the week’s biggest and best events and the local bar scene with a local’s insight into things. Being on this list will put you right in the middle of the action.
To sign up, go to the PubClub.com home page and simply fill out the Party Report box.
3.) Go To The Area’s Many Fun Singles Events

The South Bay is full of events that are tailor-made for single people. Each Sunday in August there are free concerts on the sand in Hermosa, the pro beach volleyball tour comes to both Hermosa and Manhattan Beach in 2017 (packing the bars at both piers) and there’s even a spectacular fireworks show in Manhattan Beach each December.

4.) Go To Happy Hours In Hermosa
Happy Hours are a great place to meet people – it’s one of PubClub’s top travel tips when traveling, in fact – and it can apply when you move to a new place.
Happy Hours are often better to meet people than when a bar is in its full Friday or Saturday night swing because it’s not as crowded, you have instant conversations if you see someone who has an interesting piece of food or a creative-looking drink and everyone is more relaxed than they are at night.
The top Happy Hour places in Hermosa are Tower 12, The Mermaid (specifically for its Drink of the Week), Sundays after 5 at Patrick Molloy’s and American Junkie.
5.) Go To The Strand At Sunset

There are spectacular sunsets almost every night of the year and several people go to The Strand to watch them. The most people are on the north side of the Hermosa pier.
So those tho say “it’s so tough to meet people in the South Bay” just need to get out there and get active.
