Unique, Mystery Dining Experience A Different Kind Of Night On The Town
It’s not always a good feeling to be left in the dark about things. Unless, perhaps, you are at Dinner In The Dark.
This unique dining experience is coming to San Diego later this spring on a weekly basis and it involves going to a restaurant, being blindfolded and sitting down in a dark room lit only by candles for a mystery dinner. Which you eat while you are blindfolded.
It’s an event that takes place all over the world and quite a few people like it. You don’t know what is being put in front of you – that’s up to the chefs of the participating restaurants – and being blindfolded you can imagine there’s a bit of a hunt-and-peck system to really, well, sink your teeth into it.
As such, all your senses are focused on the taste, not the presentation or look of the food.
The three-course dinner lasts for 2 1/2 hours and cost is $90 per person. So you can expect a quality meal. If it includes drinks (wine, beer and/or cocktails) it’s a fair price. Its website does not specify whether or not alcoholic beverages are part of the price.
Diners choose from a red meat, seafood or vegan meal and it’s all done online in advance.
The dinners run weekly starting in June.
Now is this something I would try myself? Sure, I mean who isn’t up for a unique experience of any kind, right!?
I’m not sure it would be as much fun as Diner en Blanc, an all-white dinner party which – like Dine In The Dark takes place at a mystery location not revealed until a few hours in advance and also features show-stopping performers – but it does sound intriguing.
It’s certainly not your normal night out on the town.
