Cheesemakers Showcase Their Products In Delicous Boxes Delivered To Your Door

By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com Foodie Blogger
You can tell they takes their cheeses and cheesemaking seriously in Wisconsin before you even have a slice of it.
That is, if you get a delivery from WisconsinCheese.com.
I did and the box was almost as much of a work of art as the cheeses themselves. When I opened it, a 3D cutout popped up, which of course was way beyond cool. The images were of cows on a farm and cheesemakers going through the early process of production. Inside, the cheeses sat on what looked like grass (nice touch.)
Talk about setting the table for a tasty food feast – wow!

I received four cheeses: the Roth Grand Cru Reserve, Black Creek with Parmesan Notes, Shullsburg Cream Colby and Jeff’s Select Gouda. Below is a description of each:
• Roth Grand Crue Reserve
This is made in some of the largest copper vats in the country. It is aged for 6+ months in a cellar. It has won may awards and for good reason.
• Black Creek Cheddar Cheese With Parmesan Notes
Another award-winning cheese, this has notes of nutty Parmesan mixed with cheddar.
• Shullsburg Creamy Colby
The Colby is among the most available cheeses in America and this Wisconsin variety just BURSTS with flavor. It’s light years ahead of what you find in the grocery store. It goes through a washed-cured process and is an excellent “melter” cheese.
• Jeff’s Select Gouda
This cheese has a darker color than most Goudas you are used to and that’s because unlike typical Goudas, Jeff’s Select is aged in warm and humid sandstone caves. This results in is a full-bodied Gouda with a classic European nutiness and a hint of caramel. It is a collaboration between visionary cheesemarkers Jeff Jirlin of Caves of Faribault and Jeff Wideman of Maple Leaf Cheese. Its bold taste makes it outstanding in a salad.
My favorite was the Roth with the creamy Colby running a close second (the Gouda has a very strong flavor that can be a bit overwhelming at first). PubClubette Rosie liked the Cheddar with Parmesan Notes so much I thought I would not get to have any for myself!
In addition to the cheeses, my box also included a thick cutting board, a cheese-cutting knife, apple-flavored chips and a small far of apple jelly (apple because that flavor best pairs with these cheeses).
For a bite by bite analysis, it’s best for you to watch the video we did about it – a live and unscripted taste test, which you can view here on the PubClub Facebook page.
