The spirits maker is making a big splash on the spirits scene the release of two types of its Snowflake whiskeys at the event and at the same time is also releasing its Mountain Angel 10-year old.
To celebrate it is holding a one-day event at Red Rocks on Dec. 4. It will feature the traditional “Snowflake Village” with live music inside the Red Rocks Amphitheater, food trucks, drinks and entertainment. Bottles of Snowflake whiskey will be available for purchase.
The event starts bright and early at 7 a.m., with the release happening at 2:30 p.m. This is a double-release with four bottles since the 2020 event was canceled. There is Batch 23 – which was intended to be released last year – and Batch 24. More details are available at the Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey website.
The Snowflake whiskeys starts with Stranahan’s American single malts aged between four and eight years in new white American oak barrels with a #3 char, before transferring to a variety of wine, sherry, cognac, run and tequila barrels sourced from around the world.
Batch 23 was finished in casks that once held apple brandies, including Calvados from Normandy and Applejack, as well as Moscatel and Cabernet wines. The resulting whiskey is a burst of brightness, just like its name, with rich red wine notes layered throughout.
Batch 24 is a spicy, sweet spirit, with herbal overtones, a hint of pepper, and a wisp of peat on the finish. It was aged in reposado and rye barrels, with extra añejo, Tawny Port, French oak, and lightly peated casks.
But that’s not all.
The second batch Mountain Angel 10-year-old, one of Stranahan’s rarest releases and the brand’s second-ever American single malt, is aged 10 years in new charred American white oak casks. This is an ultra-premium single-malt whiskey.
Following 10 years of maturation in Denver’s high altitude and dry climate, the result is a higher-proof product with a potent and complex flavor profile and an angel’s share loss on par with Scotches over twice its age.
Only a handful of these volume-reduced barrels made it to a decade of maturation, and as a result, Mountain Angel 10-Year Batch 2 is available in very limited quantities with less than 600 bottles hitting the market this year.
Mountain Angel 10 Year Old has been recognized by the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, winning a Double Gold medal, and ranking the aged American single malt among the finest whiskey products in the world.
Mountain Angel 10-Year Batch 2 is available for purchase on the Stranahan’s website (Stranahans.com) and at select retailers for $129.99 MSRP.
