FAT THURSDAY
Sharkeez apparently can’t wait for Fat Tuesday so it’s having its Mardi Gras party tonite. $4 drink specials & prizes.
SATURDAY: FREE MARDI GRAS PARTY & PARADE
Need a Mardi Gras fix? There’s a free event taking place on Saturday at Long Beach’s Shoreline Village & Rainbow Lagoon that includes beads, Zydeo bands and a parade. It goes from noon-5, with the parade starting in front of the Aquarium at 3 (note this is a “family friendly” event so there will be a strollers and kids mixed in with the fun and partying adults).

THE OSCARS
Sunday it’s LA’s biggest day! Of course, most of us won’t get near the Academy Awards but there’s nothing wrong about being here in our own little La La Land. The Lighthouse Café and Hermosa Beach was the used in the filming of what is expected to be the Academy’s big winner, so we’ve got something to celebrate. There’s any number of house parties happening (these are private and I cannot divulge that sacred information) and no doubt most will be having pools to have you try and pick the various winners. Here’s one way to pick them; so check out this strategy.

If you want a good laugh, then check out how I peeled back a tent one year and wound up at the Governor’s Ball party!
FAT TUESDAY BARS IN THE SOUTH BAY
Laissez les bons temps rouler! Here’s where to let the good times roll in the Beach Cities.
With no Café Boogaloo the ragin’ Cajun place for Fat Tuesday in the South Bay is Ragin Cajun on PCH in Redondo Beach. It’s having live music, rum punch ($8) and a Cyclone drink ($9), a crawfish boil and other Nawlens food. Forget trying to Google its website; I wound up calling and the guy said “it’s going on all day, it will be crowded all day and it will a party.” Sounds good to me! Additionally, Shellback Tavern is having $5 Hurricanes, Silvio’s has $20 carnival plates and half off caipiroskas all day.
For future planning, here’s a list of the Top 10 places to celebrate Carnival in the world. Yes, they have big Carnival celebrations in Europe, too!
If you’re looking for a much cl road trip, then San Diego’s Gaslamp is the place to be; it blocks off 5th Ave., for a big Carnival party, complete with a parade!

NEXT THURSDAY: 310YP MONTHY MIXER
Since we’ve moved onto next week, here’s the details and location of the next 310YP mixer. If it’s anything like the last one at Redondo Beach’s Shade Hotel, then it will be a very good one!

THE PARTY REPORT’S FEATURED EVENT OF THE WEEK
The Mardi Gras parades are underway in New Orleans and Friday there’s parades everyday leading into Fat Tuesday. In case you’re there or want to jump on a plane in a last-minute inspiration, here’s the schedule and locations. I’ve actually been IN a few Mardi Gras parades (no I didn’t jump on a float!). I was in a band that marched them and let me tell you they are looooong parades!
